This beautiful slender variety was selectively bred over several years by the renowned breeder and expert on lagenaria, Prof. Dr. Berenji. Under good care and during a warm summer, Kikinda yields light green, very thin fruits which can grow up to over 2 meters (80 in) length. To grow into the elegant and straight shapes you can see on the photograph, this variety needs a pergola or a high fence to cling to. Kikinda is a village in the east of Serbia, and home of Professor Berenjis annual cucurbit festival, during which one of the highlights is the giant pumpkin weigh-off. The name Kikinda Competition Strain was dedicated to the professor and his admirable engagement as cucurbit expert, promoter and aficionado.

This variety grows well on warm and permeable soil. Best results are achieved with preculture, and sowing at the end of April. Grow on a fence or a trellis for straight necks, or leave on the ground to achieve the most interesting shapes.
